Tell Bazmusian, Archaeological mound in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Iraq.
Tell Bazmusian rises 23 meters above ground level on the right bank of the Lower Zab River, spanning a circumference of 1500 meters.
Iraqi archaeologists conducted extensive excavations at Tell Bazmusian from 1956 to 1958, uncovering 16 distinct layers of human occupation dating back to 6000 BCE.
The site revealed multiple artifacts including a temple with thick mudbrick walls and Middle Assyrian clay tablets that demonstrate the regional architectural methods.
Tell Bazmusian now lies submerged beneath Lake Dukan, making physical access to this archaeological site impossible without specialized equipment.
Excavators discovered an ornate pottery incense burner featuring a wild goat standing atop a two-story house model from the mid-second millennium BCE.
