Shalmash Falls

Shalmash Falls is a waterfall with three sequential cascades, each dropping about 10 meters through a green valley surrounded by forests. The site consists of two distinct sections and is framed by walnut, oak, and pomegranate trees.

The Sardasht region where this waterfall sits is regarded by local people as the birthplace of the prophet Zoroaster. This deep historical connection has shaped the place's significance in the area for centuries.

The name Shalmash comes from Kurdish language and means 'large rock', referring to the massive stone formations where the water falls. Local people have used this name for generations, connecting their identity to these natural features.

Visitors can reach different levels of the waterfall through built staircases, with parking available near the upper cascade. The ground is relatively easy to navigate, especially when moving from top to bottom.

The waterfall area features an unexpected mix of plants including pomegranate trees, which are quite rare to find in this mountainous region. This surprising vegetation makes the spot feel unique since you would not normally expect such plants in this terrain.
