Rifugio Pizzini, Mountain hut in Santa Caterina di Valfurva, Italy
Rifugio Pizzini sits at 2706 meters elevation in the Cedec Valley with views of Gran Zebrù and Monte Pasquale peaks. The facility has 100 beds in dormitories and private rooms, plus a heated storage area for ski equipment.
Built in 1926, this shelter served as a strategic point during World War I with military trails leading to Cima Zebrù. This role reflects the historical importance of the mountain area as a border region between different powers.
The refuge keeps Alpine traditions alive by serving local mountain dishes from Lombardy that are prepared with ingredients from the region.
The site is accessible on foot through hiking trails that vary in difficulty depending on the season. In winter, vehicle access is highly restricted and requires special permits for passage.
The access road becomes one of the highest vehicle-restricted routes in Europe during winter with extremely limited traffic. This makes reaching the refuge in cold months a real adventure for visitors.
