Rifugio Guide della Val d’Ayas, Mountain hut in Ayas, Italy
Rifugio Guide della Val d'Ayas is a mountain hut located at 3,420 meters elevation in the Aosta Valley and provides accommodation for 72 people in various room types. The lodging is simply outfitted and serves as a base for hikers and climbers.
A mountaineering company began construction of the refuge in the mid-1980s and officially opened it in 1989. Since then it has been an established base for alpinists in the region.
The refuge uses stone, wood, and copper in its construction, typical of alpine buildings in the Aosta Valley. These materials blend into architecture that fits naturally within the mountain landscape.
The refuge operates during spring and summer months with specific seasonal windows, mainly from June through September. Visitors should check ahead since opening times vary depending on the season.
The refuge sits on the rocky crest of Lambronecca and serves as a key jumping-off point for ascents of surrounding peaks. From here climbers can depart for Pollux, Castore, and Breithorn.
