Gobba di Rollin, Mountain summit at Italy-Switzerland border, Valais.
Gobba di Rollin is a mountain summit on the Italy-Switzerland border in the Valais region, rising to 3,899 meters. The peak features a broad glacial surface and a notably flat summit plateau that sets it apart from nearby alpine peaks.
The mountain gained recognition in 2000 when members of an Aosta Valley club achieved a European record by driving vehicles to the summit area on the glacial surface. This event demonstrated the unique conditions that made such an achievement possible at this elevation.
The mountain houses Europe's highest ski lift, connecting to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise ski area and attracting winter sports participants from multiple countries.
Visitors can reach the area from the Klein Matterhorn station at 3,820 meters, which is connected via cable car infrastructure. Winter access includes skiing routes across the Theodul Glacier, making the area primarily interesting during the snowy season.
The mountain is shaped by two distinct glacial systems: the Theodul Glacier covers the north face while the Verraz Glacier dominates the eastern slope. This double glacial formation creates contrasting conditions on either side of the summit.
