Città di Milano alpine hut, Mountain hut in Sulden, Italy.
The Città di Milano alpine hut is a mountain shelter in the Ortler group in South Tyrol, set at an elevation of 2,581 ft (2,581 m) among high ridges and glacier terrain. It offers basic dormitory sleeping and a dining area suited for hikers and mountaineers passing through the area.
The hut was established by a Milanese alpine club to give climbers and hikers a base in the Ortler mountains. Over time it grew into a regular stopping point for expeditions heading deeper into the surrounding high-altitude terrain.
The hut takes its name from the city of Milan, which reflects the tradition of urban alpine clubs funding and managing mountain shelters in the Alps. That connection between a major city and a remote high-altitude refuge gives the place a distinct identity that visitors often find worth knowing.
The hut can be reached on foot from Sulden or by taking a cable car that reduces the climbing time considerably. Before setting out, it is worth checking current trail and weather conditions, since high-altitude terrain can change quickly.
From this hut, routes lead to several summits above 3,000 m (9,840 ft), including Suldenspitze, Cevedale, and Königsspitze, all accessible from the same starting point. This makes it one of the few shelters in the region where a climber can choose between very different glacier routes without changing base.
