Basilica of San Frediano

The Basilica of San Frediano is a Romanesque church in Lucca with a white marble facade displaying a large golden mosaic. This mosaic depicts Christ ascending, surrounded by apostles, and forms one of the building's most striking features.

The origins trace back to a 6th-century church founded by Irish bishop Fridianus. The building underwent major reconstruction during the 12th century.

The baptismal area inside displays marble panels with scenes from the life of Moses, created by craftspeople across different periods. These carvings tell in stone the stories that mattered to the faithful of this city.
