Madonna di Campiglio, Mountain resort in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy.
Madonna di Campiglio sits on a plateau between steep rock walls and dense conifer forests. The village consists of several neighborhoods with hotels, shops, and restaurants spread along a main road, while cable car stations provide access to the slopes.
In the 12th century a small chapel was established here, serving as a rest stop for pilgrims crossing the Alps. In the 1950s the first ski lifts were built, and the place turned into a winter sports center.
The name comes from a small 12th-century shrine that stood in a forest clearing. Today locals gather in the village center for festivals where music groups from surrounding valleys perform and regional products like cheese and honey are offered.
The area opens from December to April, with slopes varying in accessibility depending on snow conditions. Several parking lots are located at the edge of town, and pedestrians can reach the center via a flat, paved path.
Every January racing teams like Ferrari and Ducati come here to present their new vehicles on snow-covered slopes for media events. Drivers showcase their machines on specially prepared courses amid the mountains.
