Tierser Alpl refuge, Mountain refuge in Tiers, Italy.
Tierser Alpl is a mountain hut located on a saddle in the Dolomites, within the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park, at about 2,440 meters (8,005 feet) in elevation. It offers sleeping space in several room types, a dining area, and a winter emergency shelter.
Max Aichner, a mountain guide from Tiers, had the hut built in 1957 at a natural crossing point between Dolomite summits. The location had already been used as a passage route before that, and the new structure turned it into a regular stop for climbers and hikers.
The refuge sits in a part of the Dolomites where German and Italian are both spoken, and visitors hear both languages naturally at the table or at the counter. Hikers from South Tyrol, other Italian regions, and abroad often cross paths here, giving the place an easy, open feeling.
The hut is reached by marked hiking trails starting from Tiers and other nearby trailheads. The months between June and October offer the most reliable conditions, with all routes open and daylight lasting long enough to complete most approaches comfortably.
The hut sits exactly on the saddle between the Schlern massif and the Rosengarten group, which means you can see two completely different mountain worlds from the same doorstep. One side opens onto broad high plateaus, while the other faces sheer rock walls.
