Gonella Hut, Mountain hut at 3071 meters in Val Veny, Italy
Gonella Hut sits on the Aiguilles Grises ridge between the Dome Glacier and Bionnassay Glacier, offering shelter to climbers in the Mont Blanc massif. The building provides beds and meals for mountaineers who need to rest and spend the night at this high elevation.
The refuge was founded in 1891 and later underwent full reconstruction between 2006 and 2011. The modernization work expanded capacity to accommodate up to 60 visitors and improved conditions for mountaineers.
The hut serves as a meeting point for climbers from around the world following the Italian normal route to Mont Blanc. People from different countries gather here and share their climbing experiences in the mountain environment.
Reaching the hut requires a several-hour hike from La Visaille, following trail S15 near the Miage glacier. The terrain is steep and demands good physical fitness and mountain hiking experience.
From this location, mountaineers can access four major peaks in close proximity to the hut. This geographic positioning makes it a valuable base camp for ambitious climbers.
