Cameria

Cameria is an ancient city with ruins spread across a hilltop near Monte Gennaro, featuring foundations of Roman-era buildings and defensive structures. The remains are scattered throughout the site and reveal different areas of this old settlement.

The settlement was founded as a colony from Alba Longa before Rome itself was established, and was later conquered by Roman forces. This event marked an important moment in Rome's expansion across the Latium region.

The excavations reveal patterns of early Latin settlements and how people lived together in this place thousands of years ago. You can see how local groups and Roman settlers shared this location and influenced each other.

The site is reachable from Palombara Sabina by following marked paths to the archaeological area. The ruins are outdoors, so you should bring sturdy footwear and protection from the weather.

Sections of the ancient defensive walls remain visible and show how people here protected their settlement. These walls provide insight into early techniques of fortification building.
