Monte Tezio, Mountain in province of Perugia, Italy
Monte Tezio is a mountain in the province of Perugia, rising between the towns of Perugia, Corciano, and Umbertide in Umbria. Its slopes are covered with mixed woodland of oak, elm, hornbeam, ash, and pine, and a large stone cross marks its summit.
The slopes of Monte Tezio were already occupied during the Etruscan period, as archaeological finds on the mountain confirm. This long human presence shows that the area served as a living and working space well before medieval times.
The stone cross at the top is a reference point that many locals use to orient themselves in the valley below. On weekends, the trail becomes a meeting place where families and groups walk together toward the summit.
The mountain can be reached from several trailheads, with marked paths for both hikers and mountain bikers at different levels of difficulty. The area is managed as a municipal park and stays open throughout the year.
Monte Tezio sits just a short drive from central Perugia, yet it receives very few foreign visitors compared to the city itself. From the summit, the view takes in a wide sweep of the Umbrian hills that is rarely seen from road level.
