Anfiteatro di Boboli

Anfiteatro di Boboli is a garden amphitheater with rising stone tiers arranged in a semicircular pattern, bordered by white marble statues along the upper edges. The curved seating structure creates intimate sightlines from different levels across the surrounding garden landscape.

Construction started in 1550 to transform an old quarry site, with the project completed in 1634 under Giulio Parigi's direction. The site evolved from an active performance venue into a quiet part of the garden landscape over the following centuries.

This space once hosted performances and musical events for the Grand Ducal court, creating a lively gathering place within the gardens. The setting remains an important backdrop for people to pause and take in the peaceful surroundings today.

Visit through the main Boboli Gardens entrance without needing a separate ticket for this area. Wear comfortable shoes since the stone steps and surrounding garden terrain involve considerable walking on uneven surfaces.

An Egyptian obelisk thousands of years old stands at the center, bringing an ancient artifact into the heart of the garden. Beside it sits a large grey granite basin added in the 1800s, creating an unexpected pairing of different historical periods.
