Castello di Drugolo, Medieval castle in Lonato del Garda, Italy.
Castello di Drugolo is a medieval castle near Lake Garda with a square layout, drawbridge, and defensive towers. The distinctive Ghibelline battlements rise above the surrounding farmland and shape the landscape.
The castle was rebuilt by the Gritti family in the late 14th century on earlier ruins. In 1436, the property passed to the Averoldi family.
The chapel Chiesetta dei Morti della Selva dates to the 18th century and sits atop the remains of an earlier quarantine facility. It shows how religious and practical needs of the past were combined within the same structure.
The property remains a private residence today and is not open to visitors. Access is via an unpaved path suitable for bicycles and horses.
In the 18th century, Giulio Antonio II Averoldi launched a major drainage project of the surrounding lands. His efforts also aimed to remove bandits from the region and make the area safer.
