Casa del Podestà

Casa del Podestà is a 15th-century residence in Lonato del Garda that operates as a house-museum today. The rooms display period furniture, paintings, sculptures, and everyday objects arranged much as they would have been when the building was a family home.

The building was constructed in the 15th century to serve as a seat of local government and authority. It was later adapted for residential use and underwent significant restoration work in the early 20th century.

The rooms hold collections that reflect how educated families lived and valued learning during the Renaissance period. You can see how books and art were arranged as part of daily life in a merchant household.

The museum is located on the main street of the old town and is straightforward to find. Plan to spend time moving through the different rooms, as each level and space offers distinct collections to explore.

The interior walls contain Renaissance frescoes that depict both religious imagery and scenes of ordinary people working and living. These painted decorations reveal the artistic tastes of the household and offer a window into how residents wanted their home to look.
