Church of Saint Francis the Greater

The Church of Saint Francis the Greater features a large rose window, external terracotta decorations, and a bell tower with double windows and lead-covered dome.

Construction of the church began in 1416 under Master builder Nicholas Gobbo, and the consecration ceremony took place on October 24, 1430.

The interior contains medieval red marble columns, late-Gothic frescoes, and an eighteenth-century Via Crucis that showcase the evolution of religious art.

Located on Via San Francesco in central Padua, the church serves as an active parish within the Diocese of Padua for regular religious services.

The church earned its designation 'Greater' to distinguish it from San Francesco Piccolo, a separate church that disappeared during the sixteenth century.
