Santa Maria in Silva, Neoclassical church in Brescia, Italy
Santa Maria in Silva is a neoclassical church in Brescia featuring a symmetrical facade with columns and a central dome. The structure follows the geometric principles typical of 19th century neoclassical architecture.
Architect Rodolfo Vantini completed this structure in 1853, replacing an older religious building that had stood across the street. It was built shortly after the nearby railway station opened.
The interior displays works by local artists and reflects the region's tradition of religious art from centuries past.
The church sits near the end of Via Corsica, just before the transition to Piazza della Repubblica. It is easily accessible from central Brescia and the surrounding neighborhood.
The construction received financial backing from the Ministry of Commerce because of its location near the newly built railway station. Such government support for a religious building was unusual during that period.
