Hohe Weisse, Mountain summit in South Tyrol, Italy
Hohe Weisse is a mountain summit in the Ötztal Alps that rises to 3,281 meters (10,764 feet) and belongs to the Texel group. The peak sits near the Austrian border and can be reached via established hiking routes from the surrounding valleys.
The first documented ascent took place in 1871 when climbers V. Hecht and R. Raffeiner established the route from Stettiner Hütte. This early climb shaped the access route that became widely used afterwards.
The mountain carries both Italian and German names, reflecting the bilingual identity of the South Tyrol region. This dual heritage is woven into how locals and visitors understand and speak about the landscape around them.
The climb from the valley takes roughly four hours and follows marked trails starting from Plan in Val Passiria. The terrain demands sure footing and experience navigating rocky mountain ground.
The eastern ridge features fractured rock that demands careful climbing and technical skill. This characteristic makes the route rewarding but demanding for experienced mountaineers.
