Hinterer Seelenkogel, Alpine summit in Ötztal, Austria
Cima delle Anime is an Alpine summit in the Ötztal standing at approximately 3,470 meters with steep glacial fields defining its landscape. From this elevation, views sweep across the border between Austria and Italy.
Mountaineers first documented their ascent of this peak in 1871, establishing initial routes in the Ötztal Alps. These early expeditions laid the foundation for further exploration of the region.
The peak is known locally by two names: Hinterer Seelenkogel in German and Cima delle Anime in Italian. This dual naming reflects the mixed communities living in this Alpine border region.
Climbing this peak requires avalanche safety equipment, touring skis, and crampons to navigate the difficult terrain. The January to May period offers the most suitable conditions for attempting the ascent.
From the Langtalereck Hütte starting point, climbers face an elevation gain of about 1,000 meters spread over roughly 7 kilometers. This demanding route makes the ascent a test of endurance and mountain fitness.
