Monumental cemetery of Verona

Located along the Adige River near Porta Vittoria, this cemetery contains monuments and funeral sculptures from numerous Veronese families across two centuries.

The cemetery opened in 1829 following Giuseppe Barbieri's design, responding to the Napoleonic Edict of Saint Cloud requiring burial grounds outside city limits.

The burial site features architectural elements from neoclassicism, realism, symbolism, and Art Nouveau, including works inspired by Rodin and Monteverde.

The cemetery welcomes visitors daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM during winter months and until 6:30 PM in summer, with three separate entrance points.

The grounds include the tombs of writer Emilio Salgari, poet Berto Barbarani, and futurist artist Umberto Boccioni, forming an open-air museum of local history.
