Galleria comunale d'arte

Galleria Comunale d'Arte is an art museum in Giardini Pubblici and houses more than 3000 works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The collection includes sculptures, paintings, and graphic works that display the artistic diversity of this era.

The building was originally a Barefoot Carmelite monastery from the 17th century and underwent several transformations over time. It opened as an art gallery in 1933 and became an important cultural venue in the city.

The gallery displays works by Italian masters such as Giacomo Balla, Carlo Carrà, and Giorgio de Chirico, documenting the nation's artistic development. These pieces allow visitors to experience the different styles and movements that shaped Italian modern art.

Between 1931 and 1938, the museum carried a different political name and was then closed, reopening in 1949 under its current designation. This reopening marked a fresh start after a difficult period in Italian history.
