Museum of the Treasure of St. Gennaro
Museum of the Treasure of St. Gennaro, Religious museum near Duomo, Naples, Italy
The Museum of the Treasure of St. Gennaro displays precious artifacts including silver relics, gold items, and ceremonial vestments in a 700-square-meter space.
Inaugurated in December 2003, the museum project received funding from private companies, European funds, and local institutions under President Ciampi's patronage.
The collection includes a 1713 mitre by silversmith Matteo Treglia, adorned with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, representing Neapolitan craftsmanship excellence.
The museum provides guided tours through three recently restored sacristies containing paintings by Luca Giordano, Massimo Stanzione, and other Neapolitan artists.
During World War II, the entire treasure collection found protection in the Vatican until 1947, when Giuseppe Navarra transported it back to Naples.
