Girolamini, Renaissance church near Naples Cathedral, Italy

Girolamini is a Renaissance church with a Latin cross layout, three naves, and side chapels arranged in a classical pattern. Two cloisters at its heart feature orange trees and hold art collections that fill the adjoining spaces.

Construction started in 1592 under Giovanni Antonio Dosio and was later reworked by Ferdinando Fuga during the Bourbon rule. The building thus carries traces of architectural choices from different periods of Naples.

This church served as a center for local learning and faith, housing artworks that shaped how people experienced devotion and beauty. The interior reflects the artistic tastes of Renaissance and Baroque Naples.

The church sits at Via Duomo 142, right across from Naples Cathedral, with its entrance on Piazzetta Gerolamini. You can reach it easily on foot and it occupies a central spot in the old city center.

The Biblioteca dei Girolamini, founded in 1586, stands as Naples' oldest library and Italy's second oldest. Within its rooms lie thousands of manuscripts and books that tell the story of the city's intellectual past.
