PalaLido, indoor arena in Milan
PalaLido, also known as Allianz Cloud Arena, is an indoor arena in Milan with around 5,400 seats and a floor that can be adapted for different sports or events. The roof, made of steel and polycarbonate, curves over the building and gives it a rounded outline that stands out from the surrounding neighborhood.
The building opened in 1961 as a straightforward sports hall used mainly for basketball, volleyball, and boxing. It closed for a full renovation between 2013 and 2019, after which it reopened with its new roof and the name Allianz Cloud Arena.
The nickname 'Cloud' comes from the shape of the roof, which curves overhead like a low cloud when seen from inside. This detail gives the space a feeling that sets it apart from a typical sports hall.
The arena sits in Milan close to several public transport stops and is easy to reach by metro or bus. It is worth arriving a little early, as the streets around it tend to fill up before events begin.
The hall was one of the first sports venues in Italy to install solar panels and energy-saving lighting as part of its renovation. This approach was unusual for a venue of this size in Italy at the time of its reopening in 2019.
