Parco galileiano, Museum and park in Pisa, Italy
Parco Galileiano is a public park in central Pisa, built on a former military and industrial site near the old city walls. It combines open lawns, a metal footbridge, a water basin, and an outdoor theater stage.
The site was badly damaged during World War Two and afterward set aside for a new public park. Architect Giovanni Michelucci drew up plans in 1957 to honor Galileo Galilei, but the project was never fully completed.
The park sits close to the city center and can be reached on foot from most of Pisa's main sights. Not all areas are open at all times, so it is worth checking which parts are accessible before visiting.
Michelucci's original plan included a planetarium, a study center, and an artificial lake, none of which were ever built. The few structures that do exist today give only a partial sense of how large and ambitious the original vision was.
