Riserva naturale Abetone

Riserva naturale Abetone is a protected area in Tuscany's Pistoia province, encompassing forest stands, mountain meadows, and alpine habitats at elevations between about 1000 and 1600 meters. The terrain is characterized by transitions between dense fir forests in lower areas and open grasslands with scattered trees at higher elevations.

The area came under State Forest management following Italian unification in 1860, leading to improved protection measures. This state oversight laid the foundation for today's conservation strategy and long-term forest preservation.

The reserve features educational trails where visitors can experience different forest types and mountain meadows firsthand. People come here to understand how nature functions at this altitude and which species inhabit this ecosystem.
