Rifugio Havis De Giorgio, Mountain hut in Roccaforte Mondovì, Italy.
Rifugio Havis De Giorgio is a mountain hut located in the Ligurian Alps at approximately 1761 meters elevation. The stone building contains around 61 beds distributed across multiple rooms, with accessible facilities including a ground floor space with private bathroom.
The shelter was constructed in 1929 under the original name Rifugio Mondovì and received its current name in 1945 in honor of Havis De Giorgio. He had given his life saving fellow climbers in East Africa during an earlier expedition.
The stone building serves as a critical stop along the Grand Traverse of the Alps, connecting hikers to the rich traditions of alpine mountaineering.
The hut sits along a popular hiking route and is most accessible during warmer months when mountain paths are clear and passable. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, as conditions at this elevation can change rapidly.
The facility powers itself partly through hydroelectric systems that tap into nearby streams flowing from the surrounding peaks. An educational trail winds around the building, highlighting distinctive karst rock formations shaped over millennia by water erosion.
