Torre del Falcone, 16th century coastal watchtower in Capo Falcone, Italy.

Torre del Falcone is a 16th century coastal watchtower at the northwestern tip of Sardinia, rising 190 meters above sea level. The structure of crystalline schist dominates Capo Falcone and offers views across both neighboring sea areas.

The structure was built in 1557 as part of a defensive network of five towers to protect the Sardinian coast from sea invasions. This system played an important role in regional defense during a period of frequent pirate attacks.

The tower shows regional building methods through its use of crystalline schist, a metamorphic rock common to Stintino's territory. This local stone gives the structure its distinctive appearance and connects it to the geological character of the surrounding landscape.

Visitors can reach the tower by following marked paths from Stintino, with the site remaining accessible during daylight hours throughout the year. Sturdy footwear is useful since the walk crosses rocky terrain.

The site sits near nesting grounds of peregrine falcons, which continue to inhabit the black schist cliffs surrounding the cape. Watching these birds of prey circle in the coastal thermals above the tower is a frequent highlight for visitors.
