The Castello district extends north of central Lecco, featuring narrow streets and traditional buildings along the Gerenzone and Fiumicella rivers.
During medieval times, this area represented the original settlement of Lecco before the city relocated to the lake shores around 1330.
The Palazzo Belgiojoso houses multiple museums, including the Archaeological Museum, Historical Museum, Natural History Museum, and Civic Planetarium.
The district contains the Saints Gervasius and Protasius Parish Church in Piazza dell'Oro, which previously held the title of provost basilica.
The local residents carry the nickname 'Scarpascés,' meaning fence-busters, a term that originated from the behavior of children in the neighborhood.
