Casa di Lucia Mondella, Historical house in Olate district, Lecco, Italy
Casa di Lucia Mondella is a two-story rural building with wooden balconies and exterior stairs located in Lecco. A traditional courtyard marks the entrance area and gives the house its distinctive layout.
The house became famous through Alessandro Manzoni's novel 'I Promessi Sposi', where it represents the home of the character Lucia Mondella in the 1600s. This connection to the classic work established it as an important site in Italian literary history.
A fresco of the Annunciation from the 16th century decorates the portal above the main entrance, showing the religious and artistic traditions of that period. This artwork remains visible to visitors and reflects the cultural values of the rural community.
The house is located at Via Caldone 19 in Lecco and remains a private residence with limited visitor access. The courtyard can only be viewed from outside when the main gate is open.
The house competes with another building in Acquate for the claim of being Lucia's actual residence. Both locations existed as separate settlements during the novel's time period and had different names in that era.
