Thiene Cathedral

Thiene Cathedral is a church building with a central nave and a grand dome added in the 1930s that gives the space height and grandeur. A slender bell tower designed by Sebastiano Serlio rises beside the main structure and is visible from a distance.

The original church dated to 1292, but was replaced with a new structure between 1625 and 1630 that reflected Baroque tastes. Extensive renovations between 1792 and 1796 modernized the building further and set its current appearance.

The ceiling displays paintings by Venetian Baroque artists such as Giulio Carpioni and Giovanni Battista Pittoni, filling the interior with colorful religious art. These works are part of the artistic decoration that makes the building an important center for sacred art in the region.

The building sits in the old town and is easily reached on foot, especially if coming from the city center. The best time to visit is during quieter hours of the day, when you can explore the interior spaces at a relaxed pace.

Standing beside it is the Church of the Rosary, built in 1685 and containing an altarpiece by Matteo Grazioli. This companion building also displays decorations by local artists such as Ballante and Valentino Bassi, offering an extra layer of artistic detail to discover.
