Giardino Botanico Alpino "Rezia", botanical garden in Italy
The Giardino Botanico Alpino Rezia is a botanical garden in Bormio that displays over 2500 plant species from alpine and mountain regions. The garden is divided into four sections that feature plants from the Italian Alps, European Alps, Arctic areas, and Antarctica.
The garden was created to show the unique plant species that grow in the Alps. It developed into a place for plant research and protecting plant diversity in connection with the Stelvio National Park.
The name Rezia refers to the historical region that once covered this area. Today, visitors use this space to experience alpine plant life firsthand and understand how plants and landscape shape each other in mountain communities.
The garden is free to enter and located in the town of Bormio, about 5 minutes by car or 25 minutes on foot from the town center. The paths are easy to follow and invite leisurely walks, with signs describing the plants along the way.
The garden brings together alpine plants from vastly different climate zones in one place, including species from Antarctica that are rarely seen elsewhere. This collection shows how similar plants grow in completely different parts of the world.
