Pyramides Calcaires, Limestone summit in Val Veny, Italy
Pyramides Calcaires are two white peaks forming a rocky ridge at 2726 meters elevation in Val Veny. The northeast pyramid contains limestone while the southwest peak features metamorphic rocks.
The peaks formed during intense geological activity that shaped the limestone formations over millions of years. Ancient military fortifications are carved into the rock, marking historical defense positions along the Italian-French border in the Mont Blanc region.
The Rifugio Elisabetta Soldini mountain hut provides accommodation and local knowledge for climbers traversing the Tour du Mont Blanc hiking circuit.
Climbing is possible from June through October, starting at Rifugio Elisabetta with approximately 600 meters of elevation gain through meadows and rocky terrain. The route passes over open alpine spaces and requires sure-footedness on steep sections.
The limestone composition creates a striking geological contrast against the predominantly granite formations of the Mont Blanc massif. This rare mineral difference makes the peaks particularly interesting for hikers and climbers interested in Alpine geology.
