Boboli obelisk, Ancient Egyptian obelisk in Boboli Gardens, Florence, Italy
The red granite obelisk stands 6.23 meters tall near the Palazzo Pitti, featuring hieroglyphic inscriptions on all four sides of its surface.
Originally carved during Pharaoh Ramesses II reign in 1279-1213 BCE, the obelisk was transported from Heliopolis to Rome under Emperor Domitian.
The inscriptions reference the Egyptian deity Atum, displaying the names and titles of Ramesses II along with solar symbols and religious texts.
The monument remains accessible to visitors within the Boboli Gardens complex, which requires a separate entrance ticket from the Pitti Palace.
Four bronze turtles support the base of this obelisk, while a gilded orb crowns its peak, elements preserved from its Roman period.
