Spiaggia di Fonza

Spiaggia di Fonza is a compact beach cove on Elba's coastline featuring a blend of smooth stones and fine sand. A central rock formation naturally divides the shoreline into two distinct sections, giving the beach its characteristic shape.

This cove was strategically important during World War II when military forces used it for operations on the island. The beach witnessed significant activity that helped change the course of the conflict in this region.

The beach marks the starting point of trail 248, Grande Traversata Elbana, which connects different parts of the island through Mediterranean landscapes.

Access to this cove involves driving on an unpaved road from Marina di Campo, which takes time and requires careful navigation. Parking near the entrance is limited, so arriving early during peak seasons helps secure a spot.

The seabed transitions from sandy areas to rocky zones, creating distinct spaces for swimming and exploring underwater. Visitors can spot marine creatures living in rocky crevices without needing to dive deep.
