Spiaggia di Maiori, Sandy beach in Maiori, Italy
Spiaggia di Maiori is a sandy beach on the Amalfi Coast with golden sand and clear Mediterranean waters. The shoreline stretches along the base of steep coastal mountains that rise immediately behind the water.
A devastating flood in 1954 reshaped the coastline and destroyed Maiori's original town center. This event fundamentally altered the geography of the area and created the sandy beach that exists today.
Several Norman watchtowers from the 16th century stand near the beach, reflecting the historical need to protect the coastline from maritime invasions.
The beach offers a mix of fee-based sections with facilities and free areas at both ends, so visitors can choose based on their preferences. Most facilities are accessible during daylight hours and the water is generally suitable for swimming year-round.
This is the longest continuous sandy beach along the entire Amalfi Coast, making it exceptional among the steep rocky coves found elsewhere in the region. The wide sand area provides more space for visitors than most other beaches in the immediate surroundings.
