Madonna delle Laste sanctuary, 17th-century Catholic shrine in Cognola, Trento, Italy.
Madonna delle Laste sanctuary is a church building from the early 17th century located in the Cognola area of Trento. Inside, the space contains religious artworks and is maintained by a community of Carmelite friars who live and work there.
The sanctuary began in 1618 as a small chapel housing a revered image of the Madonna with Child. A military officer named Mattia Galasso later provided funding that allowed the building to be enlarged and developed.
The Discalced Carmelites have made this place their home and center for spiritual work since the 17th century. Visitors encounter the living tradition of contemplative religious life that continues to shape how the sanctuary is experienced today.
The sanctuary is located in Cognola, a district of Trento, and can be reached by foot or by car. Check the official website in advance to confirm visiting hours and any special conditions before you go.
Today the sanctuary also serves as a novitiate and postulancy house for the Carmelite community of the Venetian Province. This role means it remains an active center where religious training and formation of new members happens.
