Palazzo della Pantanella a Piazza della Bocca della Verità

Palazzo della Pantanella at Piazza della Bocca della Verità is a building with clear, rational architecture featuring large windows and symmetrical facades. Its structure follows the style of late 1800s industrial buildings with functional, geometric design.

Built between 1878 and 1881 under Michelangelo Pantanella's direction, the building was Rome's first pasta factory. The operation relocated in 1929, and the structure took on new roles in the city.

The building shows Rome's shift from an ancient circus site to an industrial district in the 1800s. The factory was part of a new era when large production plants shaped and changed the city's character.

The site now houses city offices and storage for the Rome Opera House and is easy to reach near Circo Massimo metro station. Visitors should note that access may be limited since the building is still actively used for administrative purposes.

During renovation work, an ancient Mithraeum was discovered beneath the building, an underground temple dedicated to the god Mithras. This hidden chamber dates to a time long before the factory itself was built.
