Roman Theatre of Amman, Roman theater at downtown, Amman, Jordan.
The structure contains three distinct seating sections carved into a hillside, accommodating 6000 spectators with a stage and orchestra area at ground level.
The theater emerged during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius between 138-161 CE when the city operated under its Roman name Philadelphia.
The theater maintains its function as a performance space, hosting contemporary events such as the Al-Balad Music Festival and international concerts.
Two museums occupy the ground-level entrances: the Jordan Museum of Popular Traditions and the Jordan Folklore Museum, both requiring separate admission fees.
A specific spot between the stage and seating area creates an acoustic effect that projects a speaker's voice throughout the entire structure.
