Nakanoshima

Nakanoshima is a volcanic island in the Tokara Islands with steep slopes and dense forests covering much of its surface. The landscape is shaped by Mount Otake, whose summit towers above the surrounding terrain and defines the island's profile.

The native Tokara ponies represent a distinct horse breed that developed on the island after their introduction from Kikaijima in 1890.
