Abe Great Falls, Cascade waterfall in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka, Japan.

Abe Great Falls is a cascade waterfall in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka, that drops over multiple levels and reaches significant height. Water flows down through rocky formations in distinct stages, creating a powerful natural display.

The waterfall received official recognition in 1990 when Japan's Ministry of Environment included it in the Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan. This listing confirmed its status as a notable natural site.

Local people call this waterfall by three different names: Abe-no-Otaki, Suruga-no-Otaki, and Otome-no-taki, each rooted in different regional speech traditions. The multiple names show how the place has been part of community identity across different areas for a long time.

Visitors reach the waterfall by hiking a trail that includes suspension bridges and takes roughly two hours round trip. Good footwear and moderate fitness help you handle the terrain comfortably.

The waterfall sits near Umegashima onsen resort, letting visitors combine waterfall viewing with traditional hot spring bathing. This pairing means you can enjoy both nature and relaxation during a single outing.
