Ikawa Dam, Gravity dam in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

The Ikawa Dam stretches 243 meters across the Oi River, rising to a height of 103.6 meters with a concrete hollow gravity structure.

Built in 1957 by Chubu Electric Power Company, this engineering project marked the first hollow gravity dam construction in Japan.

The formation of Lake Ikawa required the relocation of local residents, leading to a model compensation program that influenced future dam projects in Japan.

Visitors can reach the dam by taking the Oigawa Railway to Ikawa Station, followed by a 5-minute walk to the main entrance.

The dam features an exhibition center where guests receive dam cards while learning about hydroelectric power generation and water resource management.
