Minamikyushu, City in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan

Minamikyūshū spans across 357.91 square kilometers on the southern part of Satsuma Peninsula, facing the East China Sea with a population of 31,666 residents.

The formation of Minamikyūshū occurred on December 1, 2007, through the merger of three distinct municipalities: Kawanabe, Chiran, and Ei in Kagoshima Prefecture.

The Chiran Samurai District preserves numerous historic residences and traditional gardens from the Edo period, showcasing Japanese architectural heritage and landscaping techniques.

The city maintains 17 public elementary schools, five junior high schools, and three high schools, serving the educational needs of local communities.

Minamikyūshū holds the distinction of being Japan's largest tea producer, with its Chiran tea variety contributing substantially to the national tea industry.
