Shizuoka Stadium is a track-and-field and ball-sports ground in Fukuroi, Shizuoka Prefecture, at the centre of Ogasayama Sports Park, which reaches into neighbouring Kakegawa. Its two-tier stands hold 50,889 seats, of which 5,236 are movable front-row places; the fixed seating is 45,653. A 400 m nine-lane all-weather track rings a 107 m by 72 m natural-grass pitch, and a wavy membrane roof on a cantilevered steel frame covers the seating.
Construction finished in March 2001 and the venue hosted three matches during the 2002 football World Cup, including the quarter-final between England and Brazil. Since then, the facility has regularly served national and international competitions.
The walk from Aino Station to the stadium passes sixteen artworks, each by an artist from a country that hosted a previous World Cup; they were commissioned for the 2002 tournament, which Japan co-hosted with South Korea. Inside, a relief reading "FIFA WORLD CUP/SHIZUOKA" marks the main stand, and the Ecopa Sports Museum on the first floor holds a bronze statue of rugby player Ayumu Goromaru in his kicking pose.
The complex lies on the JR Central Tokaido Main Line and is within walking distance from Aino station. Visitors should expect an extensive site with multiple entrances and longer walking paths between different sections.
The site is embedded in the Ogasayama Nature and Sports Park, so sections of forest and green space surround the sporting facilities. This combination of natural setting and sports infrastructure is rare for venues of this scale.
