Esaka Station, Metro and railway station in Suita, Japan.
Esaka Station is a railway and metro junction in Suita, a city just north of Osaka in Japan. The ticket counters sit on the second level, while the platforms on the third level serve both the Midosuji Line and the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway's Namboku Line.
The station opened in 1970 as part of an effort to extend public transport northward from Osaka. It was planned from the start as a terminal point and future connection hub for the growing region.
Esaka Station sits on the border between Suita and Osaka, making it a daily gateway for commuters moving between the two cities. The area around the station is lined with offices and shops, giving the neighborhood a working, workaday character that feels more local than touristy.
The station has elevators and escalators connecting all levels, making it straightforward to move between lines. First-time visitors should follow the signs carefully, as the transfer between the two rail operators can be easy to miss.
Esaka is the northernmost stop of the Osaka subway system on the Midosuji Line, marking the point where the city network ends. Just beyond the station, a different rail operator takes over, which is why passengers sometimes notice a change in ticketing and signage even though the trains keep running.
