Located on the central coastline of Kanagawa Prefecture, Oiso extends along Sagami Bay with sandy beaches and rises toward Mount Koma at 168 meters elevation.
During the Edo period, Oiso functioned as Oiso-juku, a strategic post town on the Tokaido route that connected the cities of Edo and Kyoto.
The town gained recognition in the Meiji period when political leaders and literary figures established summer residences, creating a notable coastal retreat tradition.
Residents access Tokyo through the Tokaido Main Line railway, while the town maintains one elementary school, one middle school, and one public high school.
The local administration initiated the Oasis 24 health program, establishing community consultation centers where seniors receive guidance from medical professionals.
