Oiso Joyama Park

Oiso Joyama Park is a seven-hectare space spread across multiple levels along the Shonan coast, with thick forests of castanopsis, oak, and zelkova trees throughout. The park contains walking paths, the Joyama-an teahouse, and an observation deck for viewing the surrounding landscape.

The park was established in 1987 on the grounds of a former Mitsui family villa that served as a retreat during the Meiji period. The transformation from private residence to public space reflects the area's historical importance as a destination for influential figures.

The Joyama-an teahouse displays traditional Japanese architectural style and serves as a space where visitors can experience the quiet practice of tea culture. The design draws from historical examples while functioning as a living space for cultural activities today.

The site is best explored on foot, with sturdy footwear recommended for the sloped terrain and forest paths. Visitor facilities and information signs help guests navigate and locate the main areas, including rest spots along the trails.

On clear days, the observation deck reveals Mount Fuji, the Hakone mountains, Izu Peninsula, Sagami Bay, and Izu Oshima island all in one view. This rare multi-landmark sightline attracts photographers and people seeking to capture the region's geography from a single vantage point.
