Kishiwada

Kishiwada stretches from the shore of Osaka Bay to the Izumi Mountains in the southwestern part of Osaka Prefecture. The city connects coastal neighborhoods with hillside areas and temple districts scattered across terraced slopes.

General Wada Haruji established a fortress in the Kishi region in 1337 after Kusunoki Masahige appointed him to oversee this area. The settlement grew around this castle into an important trading point between the coast and the mountains.

The Danjiri festival shows teams pulling large wooden carts through narrow lanes while performing skills passed down over centuries. Participants wear traditional clothing and coordinate their movements with rhythmic chants.

The Nankai Electric Railway and JR West lines connect several stations in the city with central Osaka in under an hour. Most attractions can be reached on foot within a short walk from the station.

The ancient Mayuyama burial mounds from the Kofun period stand today in the middle of the city and remain open to the public. Some of these mounds have kept their original shape for over 1500 years.
