Kunitachi College of Music, Music conservatory in Tachikawa, Japan
Kunitachi College of Music is a conservatory in Kashiwachō, western Tokyo, with teaching rooms, concert halls and recording studios. The campus spreads across several buildings, each housing different instruments and musical disciplines.
The institution began in 1926 as the Private Tokyo Music Conservatory and later relocated to Kashiwachō. After World War II it gained university status and its current name.
The campus serves today as a training ground for instrumentalists and composers, with halls regularly hosting public concerts and student recitals. Visitors can witness academic life through free performances that form part of the practical curriculum.
The facility sits in a suburban area well connected by the Chūō Line, with visitors advised to check the events calendar in advance. Many performances are open to the public and offer a chance to hear emerging talent.
Graduate Joe Hisaishi went on to compose film scores for Hayao Miyazaki, shaping the sound of Studio Ghibli productions. His connection to the college is still cited by faculty and students as an inspiration today.
