Hodogaya Station, Railway station in Hodogaya-ku, Yokohama, Japan
Hodogaya Station is a railway station in Yokohama with a single island platform serving two tracks for both the Yokosuka Line and Shonan-Shinjuku Line. The station building sits above ground and is used daily by around 34,000 passengers.
Operations began on July 11, 1887, as part of the Japanese Government Railways system in its early years. The station was established during a period when rail networks were first expanding across Japan.
The station's name was changed in 1931 to better reflect the identity of the Hodogaya district following a request from Yokohama's local government. This local connection remains visible today and helps anchor the station within its surrounding neighborhood.
The station has a staffed ticket office to help with bookings and inquiries for both rail lines. Visitors should check the platform indicators before boarding to ensure they board the correct train for their destination.
Two preserved signals on the north side are remnants of a former freight platform and help control the departure timing of passenger trains. These historical elements show how the station shifted from cargo handling to serving only passengers.
